Welcome to the best bakery and pastry shop in St. John's

Hello, I'm Hanna – the solo baker behind Bake Hysteria, my cozy home bakery here in St. John's, Newfoundland. I believe everyone deserves to feel special. To me, a cake isn’t just a dessert — it’s a moment of joy. I plan every detail so everything is just right, and I pour my heart into every recipe to bring a smile to your face.

How It All Started?
My love for baking began in childhood. I used to love baking for my friends — we would gather for tea, play the guitar, sing, laugh, and I was always the one who brought the cake. I adored the process, but more than anything, it was their reaction that made it all worth it. The moment someone said, "Can I have another slice?" — that was the sweetest moment for me. It meant I did something right.
Today, it’s still all about the reaction — but now it’s yours, my dear clients. The most heartwarming messages I receive are things like:
"This was the most delicious cake we've ever had."
"We finally found our family baker."
"We have many more celebrations ahead, and now we know exactly where to order our cake."
or
"The pistachio flavor was incredible — everyone was thrilled. It was such a joyful day. Thank you."

Sometimes people ask me, "Why didn’t you pursue a career in IT?" (since I studied in that field) or "Why don’t you go into modeling or something else?" And now I know exactly how to answer: Because I’m a baker. I love what I do. Deep down, I think I’ve always been a baker — it just took me some time to find myself and understand who I truly am and why I’m here.
I’m certain that my purpose in life is to bring joy, to create moments, to let people experience incredible flavors.
I’m a dessert fairy — you see? 😁
As a child, I loved sweets — not just because they were sweet, but because I was fascinated by how different flavors and textures could come together. My favorite candy bar was Snickers — the perfect combo of crunchy roasted peanuts, silky caramel, and good-quality chocolate. It was magic.

And my favorite cake? Napoleon. My dad used to make it for us. I loved those delicate layers soaked in creamy vanilla custard. The hardest part was waiting for the cake to sit in the fridge. As a kid, it felt like forever, but if you waited… oh, it was worth it. That tender, flaky, melt-in-your-mouth moment — it’s impossible to describe. Maybe that’s why I became a baker: because I can’t explain how good it is, but I can let you taste it.
You know, some people believe politicians can change the world. Some believe in God. Some believe in something else.
I believe desserts can change the world.
Well — maybe not the whole world… but definitely the way we feel about it.
Because when you bite into the perfect, flaky chocolate croissant, you suddenly realize — yes, there is something perfect in this world. Something truly flawless. And I swear, your whole day just gets better after that first bite.
And by the way… my biggest dream is to learn how to make the perfect croissant and study at Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa. But I’ll need $20,000 for that 🥲
I really hope my little business grows and one day I’ll earn my way to that dream.

Every season brings new inspiration to my kitchen. From cozy Christmas desserts to delicate Mother's Day cupcakes and whimsical Father's Day treats, I enjoy tailoring desserts to the holiday or event. Graduation season, Valentine's Day, Halloween – whatever the celebration, I’m always dreaming up festive designs and flavors to match. I believe these seasonal touches make moments even more memorable.

Above all, my mission is simple: to share joy through baking. I know the happiness that a slice of cake can bring, and it’s why I started this journey. As a local home baker, nothing makes me happier than being part of your special day. I may be a one-woman operation, but I strive to be the best cake shop in St. John's and near Mount Pearl – not because of size, but because of the love and care in each bake.
